I’m convinced that there’s there groups at work here: 1) the civil rights protestors with legitimate grievances, who are largely or entirely peaceful, 2) violent activists piggy backing on someone else’s demonstration to live out their ideology - whether its anarchists, white supremacists, or some sort of neo Bolsheviks, regardless of where they are on the political spectrum, they’re all in this group, even if they also hate each other, and 3) ordinary criminals who are taking the opportunity to steal under cover of all the other chaos.

Definitely some instigators:

But it looks like even 45 wants some riots and unrest:

Correct.
T

is despicable.

Absolutely. There are no absolutes when it comes to this. It’s not just “all protesters are looters and bad” or “ all looters are protesters”. It’s far more nuanced than that.

There’s a lot of eyewitness reports of it, people at BLM marches talking about how, at the end of the march, all of a sudden they’re surrounded by a bunch of strangers that weren’t there before mixing in and acting like they’re part of it. People gradually filter in, and stay behind as the original crowd leaves.

What percentage of people know how to ride? More or less than the percentage who know how to drive stick?
I’m guessing rode in this case may just mean got on the horse and managed not to fall off for a bit?

While not to condone a riot or make light of a serious situation , in and of itself stealing a police horse and riding it through town is a pretty creative shenanigan to pull. On the condition the horse was unharmed and it doesn’t spark a riot, I’d like to think I’d buy that person a beer after they get out of prison if only to hear the telling of the tale.
That said, stay safe and hope a protest doesn’t get out of hand.

Police horses are well trained. I imagine your average idiot could hop on one and generally guide it around.

Also, the cop who’s horse was stolen will never, ever be able to live that down. That is how nicknames are earned.

My quiet little town on the peninsula has an 8:30 curfew...not thrilled about that.

Can you imagine having to explain to the cadet how your tag says “Miller” but everyone at the precinct calls you “Nay-Neigh”?

That sounds like a scene out of Animal House.

Not one to kick a dead horse but I imagine a police horse would be really well trained and easy to ride. Not your usual ranch horse that has too many ideas of its own.

My grandpa knew some guys in college who got away with stealing a police car and parking it in the college president’s garage. It was a pretty entertaining story, I wish I could remember all the details... I’ll have to ask him later.
